Sharofiddin Gadoev President of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracy in Central Asia (FDDCA)
Sharofiddin Gadoev is the President of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracy in Central Asia (FDDCA), an organization committed to promoting democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and sustainable development across the Central Asian region. Through his leadership, the foundation emphasizes the necessity of political reforms, the eradication of corruption, and the protection of marginalized and vulnerable groups.
Born on May 19, 1985, in Farkhor District, Khatlon Province, Tajikistan, Gadoev holds a degree in International Law and International Relations from Tajik National University. From 2005 to 2012, he excelled as an entrepreneur, co-founding several successful companies. However, systemic corruption and economic monopolization orchestrated by the family of President Emomali Rahmon led to the unlawful expropriation of his businesses, a turning point that propelled Gadoev into active political opposition.
In 2012, he co-founded the opposition movement “Group 24”, which sought political and economic reforms, and in 2018, he launched the “Reforms and Development of Tajikistan” movement. This platform aims to modernize Tajikistan by advancing citizens’ rights, fostering democratic governance, and promoting sustainable economic development.
Gadoev has faced severe persecution, including abduction, torture, fabricated criminal charges, and the abuse of international mechanisms such as Interpol. Despite these hardships, he found refuge in the Netherlands, where he continues his steadfast advocacy for human rights and democratic governance. His release and safety were ensured through the efforts of leading international human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and the Norwegian Helsinki Committee.
Today, Sharofiddin Gadoev stands as a distinguished advocate for democracy and justice in Central Asia. His extensive expertise in political reform and human rights advocacy underscores his enduring commitment to fostering a just, democratic, and sustainable future for the region.
